    The first stable release: click a line of lyrics to jump there, a new app icon, and a choice of tray icon.

    Added

    • Click a line of lyrics with LRC timestamps to jump to where it starts in the song
    • Settings → Tray icon chooses the color icon or a monochrome one, light for dark panels or dark for light panels. The tray shows the new icon straight away
    • Each release is announced in the Music Alerts channel on chat.strawly.app

    • The app icon is the note on its own, without the green square, and larger, so it reads better in the system tray

    Edit the details of a song, lyrics beside the player or in a tab, and the volume the Plasma applet shows.

    Added

    • Edit Details, in the right-click menu of a song in All Music or a playlist, changes the tags and the cover inside the song's file: title, artist, album, album artist, track and disc numbers with their totals, date, genre, composer, lyricist, conductor, remixer, grouping, record label, mood, comment and lyrics. Only the fields that changed are written, and tags the editor does not show stay as they were. The cover can be replaced with a JPEG or PNG image, or removed
    • Click the artist, album, year or genre in the player bar to show All Music with a search field for it, such as album:=Fierce. Clicking another album replaces that field, and clicking the same album again takes it out, leaving the other fields
    • Click the length at the end of the progress bar to show the time left, and again for the length
    • A search field with = matches the whole value, so album:=Fierce finds the album Fierce and not Sasha Fierce
    • The arrow at the top right of the Normal and Expanded player bars shows or hides the lyrics on the right of the bar. Drag the line between the controls and the lyrics to change their width
    • A Lyrics tab after All Music shows the lyrics in a bigger font. The lyrics button of the Mini player bar opens it, and so does the button beside the lyrics in the larger bars
    • Lyrics with LRC timestamps, in the tags or in an .lrc file, show the line being sung larger than the others and scroll to keep it in the middle. All lyrics show in large bold lines
    • Right-click a song in Now Playing for Edit Details and Remove from Now Playing
    • Save as a playlist, above Now Playing, saves the songs as a new playlist in the order they play
    • Songs can be opened with Strawly Music, as from Open With in the file manager, and play in place of Now Playing. Settings → Music files opens Default Applications in System Settings, where Strawly Music can become the music player for songs you double-click
    • Once a year, and when a new major version comes out, the app asks for a donation. It never asks on the first start

    Changed

    • The volume in the player bar is the app's volume in the sound server, the level the Plasma volume applet and the audio settings show for Strawly Music. Moving one moves the other, and muting in Plasma shows on the bar's volume icon. The volume set in the player bar before the update carries over
    • The Expanded player bar shows the lyrics only once its arrow shows them
    • Starting Strawly Music while it runs brings its window to the front instead of starting a second copy

    Fixed

    • A new KDE color scheme shows while the app runs. The app kept the old colors until a restart, because the Flatpak sees the desktop's settings file as it was when the app started
    • The lyrics of MP3 files show. The ID3v2 lyrics frame was never read

    A detailed view with columns, your own playlist order, and Now Playing kept between starts.

    Added

    • A detailed view for All Music and the playlists, chosen in Settings. The summarized view, with each song's cover, title and artist, stays the default. The detailed view is a table, with the cover left of the columns. It shows the order number, title, artist, album, year and length, and right-clicking the column names opens a checkbox for each column the tags can fill: track number, album artist, genre, composer, disc number, comment, grouping, conductor, lyricist, remixer, record label, mood and file name
    • Click a column's name to sort the table by it, a second time to sort the other way, and a third time to go back to the list's own order. Numbers sort by value, and songs without the tag come last. A sorted playlist plays in the order shown, and cannot be reordered until the sort is off
    • Each column starts as wide as its longest value, and the columns never get wider than the middle column. Drag the line between two column names to change a width
    • All Music and each playlist keep their own columns, widths and sort, in columns.conf in the app's config folder. Reset, under the checkboxes, puts one list back to the defaults
    • Drag a column's name to move the column. Each list keeps its own column order
    • Drag a playlist by its handle to put the playlists in an order of your own. Sort A-Z, above the playlists or in their right-click menu, goes back to the order by name
    • Now Playing comes back after a restart: the same songs in the same order, and the same song, paused where it was
    • Two buttons above Now Playing: one removes the songs after the one playing, the other stops and clears Now Playing
    • Play next and Add to Now Playing, in the right-click menu of a song or a playlist. Play next puts the songs right after the one playing, and Add to Now Playing puts them at the end

    Changed

    • The Add songs button above a playlist is gone. The All Music tab, and the add button on each song there, do the same. Remove songs shows only its icon, with the name as a tooltip
    • The Mini player bar is one row: the progress bar moved between the song and the buttons, which makes the bar shorter. Only the progress bar changes width with the window
    • The Settings window opens as tall as its settings, so all of them show without scrolling, up to the height of the screen

    Fixed

    • Songs scrolled past the top of All Music or a playlist no longer show over the tabs
    • With the Normal player bar, playing a song no longer moves a list scrolled to its end. The bar briefly lost the lines for the album and genre while the new song's tags were read, and the lists above it changed height

    Create and delete playlists, a larger player bar with lyrics, and start minimized.

    Added

    • A plus button above the playlists creates a playlist. It asks for the name and saves an empty .m3u8 file in the playlist folder, then opens it. Without a playlist folder, it saves the playlist in the first music folder, which becomes the playlist folder
    • Right-click a playlist on the left to delete it. After a confirmation, the file moves to the trash through the desktop's Trash portal. When the portal refuses, a second confirmation offers to delete it permanently
    • The player bar has three sizes, chosen with the arrows at its right end. Mini is the bar from 0.3.0. Normal has a bigger cover, and shows the album, year, genre and the file's format. Expanded has a bigger cover again, and the lyrics on the right, read from the song's tags or from an .lrc file with the same name next to it
    • Setting to start minimized. With Close to the system tray on, the window starts in the tray, and otherwise it starts minimized

    • The player bar always shows, without a song before the first one plays

    Your own playlist folder, more than one music folder, and a smaller app.

    Added

    • A playlist folder of its own, where the playlists are found, separate from the music folder. Playlists in it point to songs in the music folders with relative paths such as ../Music/Song.mp3
    • More than one music folder. All Music shows the songs in all of them
    • A first-run dialog that asks for the music folder and the playlist folder
    • Setting to start Strawly Music when you log in, through the Background portal
    • Setting to hide the Donate button

    Changed

    • Settings opens in a window of its own instead of covering the player
    • The Now Playing button moved left of Settings in the top bar
    • The Refresh button is gone. Strawly Music checks the music folders every 10 seconds, so songs added, deleted or renamed in them show up in All Music by themselves, keeping the list where it was scrolled. A music folder or playlist folder that could not be read is noticed when it comes back
    • Playlist covers load again when a music folder is added, removed or comes back, or when its songs change, so a playlist whose songs were missing gets its covers once they are found
    • The music folder from 0.2.0 becomes the first music folder and the playlist folder, so the same playlists show after the update
    • The app is smaller: the bundle is 1.4 MB instead of 3.4 MB, and the program 4.9 MB instead of 14.3 MB. The Rust code is built with link-time optimization and optimized for size, which also lowers the memory the app uses
    • The Donate menu moved out of the top bar's menu into its own button, left of the About button. The About button replaces the menu and opens About Strawly Music directly

    Search, a new layout and a move to Rust.

    Added

    • Menu in the top bar with an About dialog that shows the installed version
    • Donate submenu with Ko-fi, Liberapay and Monero. Monero shows the address with a copy button
    • Search for the playlists by name, and for the songs in All Music or the open playlist by file name, tags and length. A search can name a tag, as in album:songs of the night, and compare lengths and years, as in length:>2:00 or year:<2000. The search button in the top bar, or Ctrl+F, shows the search fields
    • The Add to playlist menu shows 15 playlists at a time, with arrows for the others and a search field. Settings changes the number
    • Songs can be dropped on a playlist's tab or on the playlist in the left column to add them
    • Each release has a SHA256SUMS file to check the downloaded bundle against

    Changed

    • New layout in three columns: playlists on the left, All Music or the open playlist in the middle, and Now Playing on the right. One bar runs across the top, with a button at each end that shows or hides the column on its side. The side columns can be resized
    • All Music is a tab in the middle column instead of a second view of the playlists column
    • The Now Playing button moved from the player bar to the top bar. The Hide sidebar button is gone, and so is the All Music button, since All Music has its own tab
    • The middle column no longer has Play and Shuffle buttons. Play and Shuffle stay on each playlist in the left column
    • The window title shows the song and its artist: "Song - Artist - Strawly Music"
    • Summary in Discover and the launcher: "Play and edit your playlist files"
    • The homepage is now music.strawly.app
    • Most of the app is written in Rust instead of C++, with the same QML interface. Playback still goes through Qt Multimedia, and the media controls and the tray icon use zbus and ksni in place of Qt D-Bus and QSystemTrayIcon. What changes with it:
      • The app no longer calls FFmpeg itself to read tags
      • Tags without a standard name, such as a custom TXXX frame in an MP3, are no longer searched
      • The length a search compares for an MP3 can be a fraction of a second longer, because the encoder's silent frames now count
      • Names no longer sort by the rules of the system's language: case and accents are ignored and numbers sort by value, the same in every language, so in Swedish "Å" now sorts with "A" instead of after "Z"
      • The title, artist and cover of the playing song come from the same tag reader as the song lists, and the cover file for media controls holds the picture exactly as the song does, instead of a copy saved again as JPEG
      • The tray menu's labels sit outside Qt's translation system, which matters once the app has translations

    Fixed

    • The Shuffle and Repeat buttons in the player bar did not look pressed while shuffle or repeat was on
    • Playlists saved with absolute paths by another app, such as Elisa, or synced from another device, showed every song as "File not found" in the Flatpak, which reaches the music folder at another path. The songs are now looked for under the playlist's folder and the folders above it
    • Dropping a folder or songs from the file manager onto a playlist added nothing in the Flatpak. The drop comes in through the document portal at a path of its own, so it never looked like part of the music folder. It is now matched by where it is outside the Flatpak
    • In the Flatpak, a playlist changed by another app, such as Kate, Elisa or a Nextcloud sync, did not update in Strawly Music until it was opened again. The app watched for changes with inotify, which does not see changes made outside the Flatpak's document portal. It now checks when the playlists were last modified, every second for the open one and every two seconds for the rest. Refresh also reads the open playlist again
    • After switching the default output, for example from the speakers to headphones, the song playing moved to the headphones, but the next song played on the speakers again. Qt keeps the output the app started with and opens each new song on it. The app now follows the system's default output

    Fixes for the Flatpak.

    Fixed

    • The Flatpak showed no cover in the Plasma Media Player widget or on the lock screen. Qt 6.11, which the KDE 6.11 runtime uses, leaves the cover out of the song's metadata, so the app now reads it from the file.
    • The Flatpak no longer logs "Failed to connect to pipewire instance" on start. It uses Qt's PulseAudio backend instead of trying PipeWire first, which the sandbox has no access to.

    First release of Strawly Music, a small KDE music player built around playlist files. Your .m3u8 playlists live in your music folder, so a synced folder gives your phone the same playlists without importing them.

    • List playlists, play, shuffle, shuffle all and repeat
    • Edit playlists: add, remove and reorder songs, saved as .m3u8 files with relative paths
    • All Music view: every song in the music folder, with play and shuffle
    • Now Playing column: the play queue in shuffle order, showing which song plays next
